Professional Gossip Queen

So,

I forgot how much I love being a reporter.

They basically pay you to be a professional gossip queen. Your job is to always know what's going on, and you're encouraged to snoop on other people's business. You can even take pictures.

Not to mention how much I love seeing my own byline...

This morning, on my way up to interview the incoming president of Yukon College, I spotted this fox sauntering along the road. I quickly pulled over and took a few shots (forgetting to turn on my flash) and now, just a few hours later, one of them is on page 6 of the paper. Wicked.

Today was only my second day at the paper, but already I've covered some really interesting assignments. Yesterday I interviewed and took pictures of Yukon author David Thompson, who just published a book of short stories called Talking at the Woodpile.

(My shots of an anti-violence protest will probably be on the cover tomorrow, unless something more important happens...)

I've also been working alongside Gemma, and yesterday took pictures at a book launch she was covering.

I'm currently working on a story about the 2011 census, another about a rescue operation of a stranded woman on Lake Laberge, and a brief about Skype troubles in the North. (Some people claim NorthwesTel is blocking the service.)

You can read my first story, about a power outage in town, HERE.

I also re-published my profiles on Miriam Toews and Dennis Bolen in the paper this week.

The Whitehorse Star website has a paywall, which is annoying, so most people won't be able to follow my stories. But I'll make sure to post my favorite ones on here.

I'll keep everyone up to date,

Will!!
