My Top 25 iTunes Songs

So,

I overdid it a little last night, slept in until 3 in the afternoon, and now I'm staying in for the evening to recover. I got some pictures developed, I'm working on my scrap book, and catching up on my reading.

While I'm at it, I thought I'd write a post about my Top 25 Most Played iTunes songs. I tend to be pretty apathetic and unimaginative when it comes to music, and I'm pretty obsessed with the 90s. This haphazard mess of a list reflects that. Don't judge.

The beauty of this iTunes feature is it cuts through the bullshit. You may claim to only love serious, worthwhile music. But I bet there's tons of people with more Lady Gaga and ABBA tracks than they're willing to admit.

I figured if I shared this other people could compare their results. I'd love to see other people's lists in the comments...

#25. "Colleen" by the Painted Birds

My buddy Dom (the guy on the left) was the lead singer of this band, which broke up in 2010. I used to go to every single one of their shows, back when I lived in Vancouver. And this was my favorite song by them.

#24. "Love the Way You Lie" by Eminem
Yeah, yeah, I know. You don't even need to say anything. I like the song. Sue me.

#23. "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes

I love these guys. If you haven't seen the video of a father and daughter performing this tune, you should look it up.

#22. "Little Deuce Coup" by the Beach Boys

This will not be the Beach Boys last appearance on this list. What can I say? They make me happy.

#21. "How's it Going To Be" by Third Eye Blind

As soon as this song starts, I'm instantly in Grade 9.

#20. "Meanwhile, Rick James..." by CAKE

This is a weird one. I love CAKE, but I'm pretty indifferent to this track. Whatever.

#19. "Walking with a Ghost" by Tegan and Sara

This is an example of Maciel's influence in my life.

#18. "Banana Pancakes" by Jack Johnson

I can sing all of the lyrics. Cat and I used to sing this to each other. I never get sick of Jack Johnson.

#17. "Semi-Charmed Life" by Third Eye Blind

Like I said, Grade 9.

#16. "Wake Up" by Arcade Fire

I think Arcade Fire is the greatest band making music today. The only reason The Suburbs isn't on this list is I just got it from Gemma a few weeks ago.

#15. "Your Beauty Must be Rubbing Off" by Hawksley Workman

I would probably marry Hawksley Workman.

#14. "Slide" by the Goo Goo Dolls

Oh, the nostalgia.

#12. "Lebanese Blond" by Thievery Corporation

Thank you, Zach Braff.

#11. "3 a.m." by Matchbox Twenty

You're probably getting the idea by now.

#10. "Don't Speak" by No Doubt

I can still sing almost every single lyric of Tragic Kingdom. If Hawksley Workman turned me down, I would marry Gwen.

#9. "So Sorry" by Feist

When is she going to do a new album?

#8. "Sometime Around Midnight" by Airborne Toxic Event

I love this song. Everyone, sooner or later, has one of those nights: You run into an ex at a bar, you're a little too drunk, you get hyper-emotional and make an ass of yourself. Airborne Toxic Event, however, makes it sound cool.

#7. "Santa Monica" by Everclear

When I was dating my first girlfriend, this was "our song". "We could live beside the ocean, leave the fire behind, swim out past the breakers, and watch the world die." Fuck yeah.

#6. "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys

Paul McCartney once called this the greatest American song ever recorded. Makes sense to me.

#5. "Badfish" by Sublime

A lot of people consider Sublime "douchebag music". I think their music is, well, sublime.

#4. "Smoke Baby" by Hawksley Workman

I once listened to this song five times in a row without getting sick of it. Try it.

#3. "Thief" by Our Lady Peace

One of my favorite songs of all time. Easily.

#2. "What I Wouldn't Do" by A Fine Frenzy

I barely listened to the rest of this album, and didn't need to. This song alone was worth the price of the album.

#1. "The Way I Am" by Ingrid Michaelson

I heard this song on the radio once, and spent a month tirelessly trying to found out who it was by and how I could get the album. This became my song with Cat. I listen to it any time I'm feeling shitty.

Anyways, that's my list. What's yours?

Will!!
